OBJECTIVE

My objective is to get involved with established companies and/or early stage growth firms and enter into situations where my experience in project management for marketing functions can generate immediate results.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Group Exercise Instructor

December 2003 - present

24HR Fitness-Lance Armstrong Super Sport | Tualatin, OR

Sports and Physical Recreation

I am employed on a part-time contract basis to provide GroupX instruction for indoor cycling, also known as Spinning. I have taught over 1,000 classes and enjoy a high attendance at each class as well as strong customer satisfaction! It also keeps me in top shape to remain physically and mentally sharp!

Founder

January 1997 - present

NextBigThing LLC | Tualatin, OR

Real Estate/Property Management

NBT LLC is my asset management company which I have utilized since selling Random Access in 1995. It has been involved with a number of asset management functions, ranging from security investments, real estate transactions, and vacation property rentals. My success with these ventures has exceeded my expectations and allowed me to remain self employed over the past 12 years since the sale of Random Access. However, I have been curtailing my activities within NBT so I may pursue focused managerial functions within early stage startups as well as marketing project management within established firms.

Business Development Officer

January 2002 - October 2005

Mercy Corps | Portland, OR

Nonprofit Charitable Organizations

In a volunteer position, my involvment was with the process of screening candidates that applied with Mercy Corps' Microloan program for Immigrants and Refugees. I would meet with the individuals and screen their ideas for commercial success and assist in the business plan development including formation, budgeting, marketing, recruitement and capitalization. I would continue to meet after loan approval to mentor the business owners in their company's growth issues. It was a very rewarding experience to watch applicants grow through the cycle from inception to funding to success!

Founder/CEO/Chairman

June 1985 - September 1996

Random Access | Denver, CO

Computer/IT Services

Founded Random Access, a microcomputer integration firm in June 1985 in the basement of my home (the garage was the warehouse). I was the founder, chairman and CEO from inception to the sale of the firm to Entex Corp in September 1995 and continued on in a consulting role for 1 year. The company grew rapidly through aggressive and creative marketing/financing. Engineered the growth formula which saw sales rise to 500M and 750 employees at the time of the sale. Directed 5 rounds of public financing, including the IPO process in September 1990. Random Access stock was listed on the NASDAQ National Market System under the symbol of RNDM from 1992 until the time of sale. The merger of Random Access and Entex created the largest seller of microcomputers to businesses in the United States . Random Access was recognized on the INC 100 list of fastest growing publicly traded companies 3 times, ranking as high as number 15 in 1992. I was recognized as Entrepreneur of the Year in 1992, as well as a finalist for the award in 1991 .In 1994, Fortune Magazine recognized me as one of the Top 40 Entrepreneurs under the age of 40.
Random Access was successful due to my ability to visualize new markets and develop cost-effective methods to penetrate these marketplaces.

Data Account Executive

August 1984 - June 1985

US West Information Systems | Englewood, CO

Telecommunications Services

Recruited into US West Information Systems to assist selling data solutions and intergrate it into the PBX systems, specifically the NEAX 2400 and Ztel 100. This was the period shortly after divestiture from AT&T into the 7 RBOCs. While I was successful in my position, the large company burearacy was not an environment I enjoyed. I was able to utilize my position to network into large firms I was not aware of previously and it acted as a career springboard to launch Random Access successfully.

Vice President Western Region

December 1983 - August 1984

Dow Jones Software | San Mateo, CA

Computer Software

I was recruited by Dow Jones Software to manage sales for their line of accounting software. I was responsible for managing the territory west of the Mississippi for the firm. I signed several large contracts with World of Computers and Businessland during that time. In August 1994, the company's financial founders, Dow Jones and Charles Schwab made the decision to stop funding the company and immediately dissolve the firm on August 1st.

VP Corporate Sales

December 1981 - December 1983

IDEX Microsystem | Denver, CO

Computer Hardware

I was responsible for direction of a staff of up to 10 sales representatives for corporate sales. As this was a startup, I implemented software accountability solutions for the sales teams as well as maintained my position as the leading sales representative. It was a "boom-time" in downtown Denver and our target market was the oil and gas industry along with supporting clients, accounting firms, banks, and supply companies.

Owner

This was my official entry into entrepreneurism out of college when I started selling computers to individuals out of a small office in South Bend, Indiana I started with 2 brands, Ohio Scientific and Commodore Computers. and maintained the operation by myself for 3 yrs, acheiving a high of $250,000 in sales in 1980.
